Faith
The Wife
Goodman Brown’s newly wedded wife, portrayed as an innocent woman
who is madly in love with her husband. Faith is initially held to a level of
purity, which in Goodman Brown’s eyes couldn’t be befouled. Later on in
the story, Goodman finds Faith's pink hair ribbon in a tree on the trail to the
Devil's worship ceremony. The loss of her ribbon signifies a severance of her
religious ties and acceptance of darkness which causes Goodman Brown to also
shirk off his faith. Faith is eventually discovered at the evil ceremony,
prompting Brown to question his wife’s righteousness.
